INDIAN SUMMER

The band’s 2004 debut album on Vanguard Records.

21 songs were recorded over the summer of 2003 at Sound of Music Studios in Richmond, VA with producer John Morand, whom the band worked with on Echo Echo, and executive produced by David Lowery (Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Counting Crows).  Eventually, 10 songs in various stages of development would be shelved and 11 went on to become Indian Summer.

After finishing the Indian Summer sessions, Carbon Leaf came to a crossroads: Release another album independently or go with a record label. "We'd done five albums on our own and pushed that as far as it can go," singer/lyricist Barry Privett explains. "Obviously, anyone goes with a label in hopes of getting a wider audience and a little more muscle, but we wanted a label committed to artist development -- a rarity these days."
